Now the Fish are Changing Sex!
Scientists in Madrid have made a connection between pollutant toxins and the bizarre phenomenon of transgender fish!
It appears that toxins are causing male carp to develop ovaries and some female shelfish to grow male genitalia.
Apparently a chemical compound called tributylin is one of the pollutants to blame. Tributylin is a chemical pollutant that has been proven to engender marine transgenderism.
This chemical was used globally to protect the hulls of ships from barnacle colonies taking up residence, up until 2003 when it was banned as a pollutant. Unfortunately it may take decades for it to become inert in our seas.
By all accounts experts in this study from the University of La Coruña have discovered large numbers of affected marine creatures.
Very scary stuff.
